ALEGRIA POLIT “Rupture beyond the lake”
May 14 – 19, 2019
Villa Meier Severini, Zürich
“I wish, like my paintings, light would overcome darkness and human beings would rise above their interests respecting nature in order to understand that our jungle is the heart of our mother earth“
Alegria Polit second solo show in Zurich at Villa Meier Severini consists of her recent work in a Tribute to the Lake of Zurich, where the artist has resided for the past years. Additionally the artist is presenting her landscapes and body series, which serve as a primary source of inspiration for her work.
Her body series are a platform for deconstructing outdated narratives and they allow the viewer to have a more comprehensive interaction with her attempt to make multiple realities rather than one sealed image.
The colour strokes in the series of the Lake of Zurich paintings are deep and mysterious, always related to the profound of the waters as well as the calm and light reflected throughout the horizon. This energy of colour resembles the contrast of the Lake of Zurich with the artist’s birth country Ecuador, and the essence of rivers, jungle, and nature. In this series she focused on the mornings on the Lake of Zurich as they represent solitude.
Born in Quito, Alegria Polit studied painting in Italy. In 2017 she was awarded with the Lorenzo Il Magnifico Silver Medal by the Florence Biennale for her outstanding performance in her “Square One“ series.
